Our Story
Our Roots
We’re Georgia natives, When we started the Tybee Oyster Company, we weren’t just starting a business. We were answering a calling to protect and celebrate the heritage keystone species that has sustained this coast for thousands of years.
Our Approach
Farmed by intelligent design and intentionality
We farm using the FlipFarm floating oyster system, selected specifically for our high-energy site with strong currents, wave action, and deep tidal exchange.
This system allows us to:
Rotate baskets efficiently
Maintain consistent shell shape and strength
Reduce biofouling naturally
Harvest with precision and care
Cleaned by the Sun
A core part of our process is weekly air-drying. By flipping baskets above the waterline, the sun naturally controls barnacles and unwanted growth - no chemicals required.
The result: cleaner gear, stronger oysters, better flavor.
Regenerative by Nature
Oysters are natural filter feeders. A single adult can filter up to 50 gallons of water per day.
Sustainable aquaculture doesn’t deplete the ecosystem - it strengthens it. The gear also serves as habitat for many species Each Salt Bomb supports water quality, habitat creation, and long-term coastal resilience.
Always Improving
We evaluated multiple farming systems before selecting FlipFarm for its durability, efficiency, and commitment to continuous innovation.
